Get in touch!

I’d love to hear from you! It can take a bit of time to commission a portrait which is why I don’t have commissions available to buy directly from my webite. The first step is simply to get in touch with me so we can discuss your requirements.

For portraits from photographs: Find good quality photographs

When painting from photographs I focus on the finer details by zooming in on a computer. Please find the best photographs you can, those taken with a camera rather than phone are the best (but not essential), and good natural light is important โ€“ no flash please!. The more photos you can provide the better, and good quality photos will result in a better painting.

For portraits from photographs: Agree a composition and medium

You may have a great photograph and composition already in mind, that’s great. If not then I will work with you to design an arrangement you will love. An understanding of the subject’s character can help me choose the best photographs to use – a short video clip of them that shows their personality can be very helpful but don’t worry if you haven’t got one.

Deposit

I do require a deposit to proceed with the painting, so when you’re happy and have decided to proceed agree to the terms and conditions (see link below the contact form), pay a 33% deposit and I will get started! See my Terms and Conditions.

For live sittings: Arrange a sitting

If your portrait is being completed from life then we need to arrange a sitting. I can travel to you if it’s a feasible distance (I live in Devon) to paint the first stages of portrait in your home, and take photographs to enable me to finish the portrait in my own studio. Travel, subsistence and accommodation charges would apply.

Final painting approval

Once the painting is completed I will send you a final image to approve. When you’re completely happy and I receive the remaining balance I will post your painting using special delivery. International shipping is available.

How long until you receive your portrait?

You should normally expect to receive your painting within four weeks of the agreement to proceed. If you have an urgent request please just ask and I may be able to fit you in earlier.

Ongoing care of your painting

Your painting can last a lifetime but to do so requires love and care. Watercolours can easily fade so please do frame your painting behind glass to help protect it, and always hang it on a wall that is away from direct sunlight, damp and smoke.

Oil paintings are not hung behind glass, so should be kept dust and moisture free.
